In addition to considering the size of the treat or chew you're giving your dog - you must also take into consideration their chewing style. Learn more about chew styles and guidelines with our Guide to Knowing Your Dog's Chew Style.
General guidelines for giving your dog chews and treats:
- Supervise your dog when feeding them treats or chews, especially the first time you give them something new.
Chews should be bigger than your dog's snout
Hard chews should be slightly wider than your dog's mouth.
Remove any large swallowable pieces of hard chews to prevent blockages in the digestive system.
Provide plenty of drinking water to help with digestion.
Here are some of our favorite large-dog-friendly chews and treats.
