Q. Is It Safe for Dogs to Eat Bones?
A. Bones as chews for canines are nothing new. As primarily carnivorous animals, they used to have plenty of bone and meat in their diet. In recent years, however, dog owners don’t often give their canine companions bone chews. There are risks with giving dogs hard-to-chew foods, but the right kinds of chews can fortify your furry friend’s health and improve dental care.

Choose bone chews that are bigger in size and have thick walls for a healthier, safer, and more enjoyable chewing experience for your canine best friend. For older dogs and pets with tooth damage, opt for softer chews, such as bully sticks, pig ears, or jerkies.

Q. What Kind of Bones Are Safe for Dogs?
A. You can keep your furry friend healthy and safe by choosing the appropriate bone for them and supervising them during chew time. At Pawstruck, we recommend beef bones because the thick walls are less likely to splinter than other types. We recommend you buy bones that are bigger in size or approximately longer than your dog’s snout.

For the best product experience and longer chew time, we at Pawstruck also recommend that you buy bones that have a slightly larger circumference than that of your dog’s mouth. The bigger the size, the more challenge and the more chew time your fur friend gets. Most importantly, it reduces the risk of choking.

Remember, any bone is a choking hazard if your dog swallows it without thoroughly chewing. The act of chewing can also cause damage to the teeth if the bone is too hard. Don’t give a bone to your dogs if they have preexisting dental damage.

It is safer to get them softer chew products, like bully sticks or jerkies. Go for health-friendly, all-natural bully sticks and soft chews that contain real ingredients and are free from artificial colors, flavors, or additives.

Q. What Are the Best Bones for Dogs to Chew?

Q. How Often Should You Give Bones?
A. There’s a bone for every dog, but moderation is key. Feeding them too much can lead to constipation and, possibly, other stomach problems. One or two per week is sufficient, but give it a few days between each serving.
